Le Ghrib

The Ghrib belonged to the Chagnaud company and left La Ciotat for Marseille on 13 March 1943, towing the barge Labillon with material for a breakwater. About six miles west of Cassis the British submarine HMS Taurus sank both with gunfire within minutes, and Cassis fishermen rescued the survivors. The wrecks were only found many years later by a COMEX ROV. The 25 m tug and its barge lie intact a few dozen metres apart, flat on white sand, and swarm with anthias and pouting.
