TBM Avenger

Little remains of the aircraft apart from its frame, because it sits in a dynamic spot on the edge of the fringing reef. The landing gear struts are fully extended, which suggests the plane had just taken off or was trying to land. Archaeologists think the damaged plane may have tried to put down on the shallow reef during the Battle of Saipan, and they later found the engine and propeller. The colourful coral reef around the wreck is the main draw for divers and snorkellers.
