Um El Faroud

Also known as: MV Um El Faroud · Um El Farud

The tanker was damaged beyond repair by an explosion in Malta's dry docks on 3 February 1995 that killed nine shipyard workers. It was prepared for divers by removing doors and windows and cutting access holes, then sunk about 150 m off the Wied iz-Zurrieq inlet. A storm in the winter of 2005-2006 broke the hull in two. The huge stern propeller at 36 m is the highlight, and the engine room is among the largest on any Maltese wreck. Penetration is popular with trained wreck divers.
