Cayo Sal
Also known as: Punta Cayo Sal
The dives at Cayo Sal are made at the western end of the cay. A short terrace breaks off into a mini-wall that runs from about 18 m to 46 m and is swept by current, with small caves around 27 to 30 m. Sponges with purple polyps grow on the wall, and fish range from tiny fairy basslets to large cubera snapper. Spotted eagle rays patrol the slope. A fish-biology study published in 2010 reports possible indirect evidence of snapper spawning aggregations at Cayo Sal.
