Boca de Cote

Also known as: Las Gatas · Boca del Cote

Boca de Cote is an opening in the southern barrier reef where the shallow lagoon meets the open sea. Dive centres often run it as a drift: the boat drops divers off the outer reef and they drift with the current along the reef, passing colourful corals and sponges in many forms. A plateau a few metres deep gives way to a wall that continues well below recreational depth. Sources describe very clear water, turtles, rays, nurse sharks, schooling snappers and occasional pelagic fish. Several spots are dived in this area, and a two-dive day with a lunch break in between is common.
