Ramø
Also known as: SS Ramø
A British-built cargo ship that sank in Henningsvær harbour in April 1946 when a leftover German magnetic mine exploded under her stern. The wreck lies in two parts between about 10 and 21 m.
Ramø came through the Second World War unharmed while sailing for Nortraship, only to be lost in peacetime while loading fish in Henningsvær. One of seven mines laid in the harbour had never been cleared, and its explosion sank her immediately, killing fourteen crew. Around 1970 the bridge and foremast were blasted away and salvaged. Today the stern lies tipped onto its port side, while the rest of the wreck sits upright on its keel. The marking on the nautical chart is known to be off, and the wreck lies about a hundred metres from the harbour beacon.
