Pinguino
Also known as: Naufrágio do Pinguino
Built in 1944 in California, the Pinguino caught fire while carrying carnauba wax, cashew nuts, sisal and coffee, was turned away from Angra dos Reis harbour and sank days later in Sítio Forte bay. For decades she was one of the few largely intact wrecks in Brazil, and she is still used for wreck diving training. The hull rests on its starboard side with the upper side at roughly 7 to 9 m and the seabed at about 20 to 22 m, so beginners can tour the outside while trained wreck divers used to enter the holds. Since the 2000s the wreck has been collapsing step by step, and sources warn that penetration has become risky. Fish colonise the hull, and large tube anemones were reported inside the holds.
