Welheim

Also known as: DS Welheim · Welhaim

Welheim was carrying coal north to Ålesund in a convoy when the torpedo hit, and she sank within a few hours south of Tansøy in the Brufjorden; her crew survived. The wreck lies at an angle of about 85 degrees, so a dive from the bow reaches the port bridge wing at around 36 m. Being a modern ship for her time, she had cranes instead of tall masts and booms, and these cranes still stand and give the wreck a striking outline. Because the wreck spans such a large depth range, it suits both recreational and technical divers. The site lies open to the sea and can be weather-exposed.
