Fernedale and Parat
Also known as: Ferndale and Parat · Fernedale & Parat · Ferndale & Parat · Ferndale · Parat
Fernedale ran aground on the rock in darkness in December 1944, and the salvage steamer Parat came to help; the next day Allied Mosquito aircraft set both ships on fire and sank them. The freighter lies on a steep slope with her broken-up bow in shallow water, while the intact midship and stern reach about 34 to 40 m. From Fernedale's stern divers look down on Parat, which rests only about a metre away and lies between roughly 45 and 60 m, a depth that needs trimix. The site therefore suits both recreational divers on the larger wreck and technical divers on the smaller one. Deco and safety stops are usually made on the rock itself, which is covered in sea plumes, dead man's fingers and dahlia anemones.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
