Western Sambo
Also known as: Western Sambos
The Sambo reefs lie about four miles south of Boca Chica Channel, separated by white sand. Western Sambo holds a variety of hard corals, including brain, boulder and elkhorn coral, and is large enough for several different dives. Parrotfish, eagle rays, lobsters and sometimes reef sharks are reported. The Western Sambo Ecological Reserve between the reef and the shore is a no-take zone. The area known as Cannonball Cut is part of this reef.
