Gruta dos Camarões
Also known as: Shrimp Cave
The entrance is a narrow slit at around 35 m, followed by a tall corridor about one metre wide and some 25 m long. It ends in a large cavern full of narwal shrimp, which gives the site its name, together with big conger eels and small nudibranchs. The chamber has an air pocket, but it can only be reached with technical diving equipment. Divers then leave the cave and climb a reef wall that tops out at about 8 to 10 m for their decompression and safety stops. Visit Azores calls it one of the best cave dives in the Azores.
