Jeep Reef
Jeep Reef takes its name from the wreck of a Jeep left on the reef, about which many different stories are told; today it is thickly overgrown with corals and sponges, and its rubber tyres still make it recognisable. The reef lies in a channel between the Exuma Bank and Exuma Sound, and the current flowing over it feeds the corals and draws in large numbers of fish. Because the current is strong, the site is only dived around slack tide. Around the Jeep, coral mounds rise from white sand valleys where southern stingrays lie half buried and schools of southern sennets pass by. Being in the middle of the no-take park, the reef holds plenty of fish and lobsters that are protected from fishing. Dive operators call it one of the most colourful reefs of the Bahamas.
