Mexico Tunnels

Also known as: Mexico Tunnel

Mexico Tunnels lies outside the reef close to Mexico Rocks in the north of Ambergris Caye. Its long, partly overgrown gully runs about 40 metres between two coral spurs, and enough light enters from above that it feels more like a covered canyon than a closed tunnel. Longspine squirrelfish, tiger groupers and hogfish hide in the recesses. Back on the spurs, blue tangs, queen angelfish and trumpetfish move among soft corals and small sea fans, and friendly groupers and the odd turtle are seen.
