Basil Jones Canyons
Also known as: Basil Jones
Basil Jones lies beyond the usual range of San Pedro dive boats and needs calm seas and a full-day trip. Lens-shaped coral stacks and wide sand flats shape the reef, and many coral heads have overhangs roughly one to two and a half metres high. Lobsters shelter under them and draw Nassau and black groupers, while nurse sharks rest in the canyons and stingrays dig in the sand. Because fishing boats rarely come this far, turtles, goliath groupers, eagle rays and manta rays are seen above the reef.
