House Reef
Also known as: Wakatobi House Reef
The resort counts its house reef as several sites along more than three miles of shoreline, with the drop-off only about 80 m out from the beach. Between beach and edge lies a seagrass and coral-head zone that is rich in macro life such as frogfish, stonefish, blue-ring octopus, ghost pipefish and jawfish. Beyond the lip a wall with overhangs, sea fans and soft corals falls away, and large turtles rest in its ledges while a school of jacks hangs near the jetty. Currents vary from mild to strong, so a taxi boat drops divers up-current and they drift back to the jetty. Dives are possible from early morning until late evening, which makes it a popular night dive as well.
