Witconcrete Wreck

Also known as: Witconcrete · The WIT

The ship was built with a concrete hull in the World War II era, when steel was scarce, and later stored molasses in Belize before it was sunk on purpose in December 2021 in the Soldier Caye conservation zone. The sinking was a TASA-supported project, and the spot was picked so that no coral reef would be harmed. The hull is about 114 m long, with 16 chambers whose openings were widened so divers can look into the compartments and corridors. The surrounding sand lies at roughly 18 m, and the dive centre that runs trips there requires open water certification. Corals and fish are still settling on the structure, and snappers, groupers and rays are among the animals seen around it.
