Amber Head

Also known as: Amberhead

On the sheltered west side of the atoll, the reef here slopes gently and carries well-grown sponges of many kinds, among them giant barrel, yellow tube and elephant ear sponges. Its signature feature is a single large coral bommie at about 30 m, around 4 m high and 9 m across. Schools of bar jacks and mahogany snapper gather around it. Barracuda, grey angelfish and sharpnose puffers are also reported.
