The Elbow
Also known as: Turneffe Elbow · Turneffe Elbow South
At the southernmost point of the atoll the reef flat lies at about 18 m and slopes deeper towards the tip, cut by V-shaped grooves, before the wall drops away into very deep water. A current, usually setting north but able to change, wraps around the point, so the site is normally dived as a drift and only in calm weather. That current is what brings the big schools: cubera, dog, grey and mahogany snapper, horse-eye and yellow jacks, permit, bar jacks and rainbow runners stack up at different depths. Goliath grouper, eagle rays and the occasional shark pass by as well. Swell can make entries and exits awkward and the current can carry divers off the wall, which is why guides do not recommend it for novices. The site is a fish spawning aggregation area and a no-take zone.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
