Sayonara Wreck
Also known as: Sayonara
The boat once carried guests and supplies for the Turneffe Island Lodge and was scuttled in 1985 on sand at about 15 m. Storms have since stripped away the hull, so what remains are cables, pipes and frames rather than an intact ship. The real attraction is the surrounding reef, with large coral heads, big barrel sponges, red finger and yellow tube sponges, basket stars and file clams. Stoplight parrotfish, barracuda, French grunts, queen angelfish and peacock flounder are typical sightings. With no current and moderate depths it works well for open water divers.
