Trap Reef
Dives begin on top of the reef and drop through a gully full of kelp onto a field of broken boulders. The rocks form a mosaic of finger sponges, bryozoans, ascidians, sea whips and yellow zoanthids. Resident fish include butterfly perch, magpie perch, banded morwong, bearded cod, cowfish and stingarees, and big rock lobster and striped trumpeter are also seen. Swell breaks on the surface above the reef. It is a useful deeper alternative when the sea around Governor Island is too rough.
