Hairy Wall
The wall runs along the boundary between the sand and the main diving area of the Governor Island reserve and plunges to 35 metres and more. Sea whips, finger sponges, soft corals and sea fans cover it, with invertebrates sheltering inside the sponges and a permanent cloud of butterfly perch in front. Large rock lobster live in its ledges thanks to the reserve's protection. Moderate currents often improve visibility, but it is easy to slip below 40 metres at the base, so depth needs constant watching. Several other Bicheno dives also begin or finish along it.
