Frederiksted Pier
Also known as: Fredericksted Pier
The Frederiksted Pier stretches about 1,500 feet out from the town and is dived from shore with a giant stride or by boat to its far end. Most of the dive is around 25 feet among concrete pilings covered in decades of sponges, soft corals and sea fans, while the far end reaches about 90 feet at the three pillars known as Tres Amigos. Seahorses, frogfish, batfish, octopus, banded coral shrimp, mantis shrimp and nudibranchs make it a site for macro photographers, and tarpon, turtles, stingrays and eagle rays swim between the pillars. Two free-standing mooring blocks south of the pier, called the Dolphins, are covered in coral as well. At night octopus and lobster hunt across the sand and tarpon feed on the bait balls. Diving is not allowed while a cruise ship or military vessel is docked.
