Turtle Reef
The reef curves in a crescent and falls steeply from its plateau, so newer divers stay in the shallows while experienced divers explore the deeper soft corals and ledges. Pillar coral and big barrel sponges are the scenery highlight. Turtle grass beds next to the reef draw hawksbill and green turtles, and since the marine reserve was created, schools of mahogany snapper and schoolmaster have returned. The SMMA calls it a tip for macro photographers, with garden eels, gold spotted snake eels, flying gurnards, peacock flounders, scorpionfish, seahorses and even the remains of an old Porsche.
