Sunrise Wreck

The Sunrise is the only dive site in Shoab Bay and is described by several operators as the biggest steel wreck in the waters around Socotra. It rests on sand in a bay that is no deeper than about 30 m, and over the years it has turned into an artificial reef that draws a lot of fish. Large rays are a feature of the site, with skates reported up to 3 m across, and schools of many fish species gather around the hull in February and March. Old fishing nets are tangled in the ship's gear, and currents and poor visibility can make the dive demanding, so operators advise diving it with an experienced diver. Divers usually travel there by fishing boat from Qalansiyah, about an hour away, and spinner dolphins are often met on the way.
