Yemen
The Socotra Archipelago is a remote island group in the Arabian Sea belonging to Yemen, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 for its exceptional level of endemic species.
The Socotra Archipelago consists of the main island of Socotra together with the smaller islands of Abd al Kuri, Samha and Darsa. It was inscribed as a UNESCO natural World Heritage Site in 2008 for its outstanding terrestrial biodiversity. The surrounding waters host coral reefs described as diverse and containing many endemic species; political instability in Yemen has limited independently verifiable information on organized diving activity.
