Mid Reef

Also known as: Midreef

Divers descend the wall to the depth they want and let the current carry them north or south. Dozens of large green turtles, used to divers, are the site's best-known residents. Soft corals, knotted sea fans and gorgonians hang from ledges where gobies, hawkfish, sweetlips and the Sulu fangblenny live. The current can be strong and sometimes pushes upward when cold thermoclines rise, which brings dense schools of triggerfish, bannerfish and unicornfish. The hard-coral flats at about 6 metres make the safety stop, often in the company of bumphead parrotfish.
