Enriquillo RM-22
Also known as: Enriquillo · Enriquillo Wreck
The Enriquillo was given to the Dominican Navy in 1980 and named after a Taíno chief who rebelled against Spanish rule; DeeperBlue says she had earlier served as USS Stallion. After 26 years of service she was handed to Grupo Puntacana and scuttled near Playa Blanca in 2006. The top of the wreck is at about 10 m and the sand at about 18 m, and the hull offers several openings for penetration. Coral has grown over the ship, and big schools of yellowtail snappers, sea breams and Atlantic horse mackerel gather around it. Green, hawksbill and leatherback turtles that nest on the nearby beaches pass by, and the currents usually bring good visibility.
