Gorilla Chop
Also known as: Sakimotobu Gorilla Chop
The site takes its name from a rock formation on the beach that resembles a gorilla about to strike a karate chop. It lies in a protected bay in the north of Okinawa Island that is sheltered from the north, so it often stays calm when wind keeps boats in port elsewhere and can be dived through the winter. The entry is an easy walk from the beach, and the bottom is sandy with hard and soft coral formations. Built platforms form an artificial reef that shelters plenty of fish. Divers see anemonefish, nudibranchs, seahorses, turtles and clouds of sardines. A car park with changing rooms and showers is on site.
