Banana Reef
Also known as: Fee Gaa Giri
The reef top lies at about 3 to 8 m and drops to 30 m and more, with separate coral blocks and small canyons on one side. Drifting north-east with the current, divers pass caves, overhangs and caverns between about 10 and 25 m, where soft corals and sea fans shelter groupers, angelfish, morays and lobsters. The southern side is a vertical wall with small caves and many red-tooth triggerfish. Further east a large school of bannerfish hangs in a current that can be very strong, and part of the dive is nicknamed the 'Washing Machine'. Blue-striped snappers, sharks, barracudas and trevallies are common, and the hard coral cover on the slope is described as unusually healthy.
