Exmouth Navy Pier
Also known as: Navy Pier · Point Murat Navy Pier
The Navy Pier on the eastern tip of North West Cape lies inside an active military facility, so fishing is banned and fish shelter here in great numbers. Its pylons are covered in soft corals and sponges and attract more than 200 fish species, from big schools of snapper, fusiliers and jacks to a resident giant Queensland groper. Grey nurse sharks visit in the cooler months, and whitetip reef sharks, wobbegongs, sea snakes, octopus, frogfish and nudibranchs are common. Strong tidal currents limit diving to slack water, so dive times change daily, and divers must verify their identity and pay a surcharge on the day. Visibility is often only 3 to 10 m, but the density of life makes it one of the best known shore dives in the world.
