Barge Wreck

The Barge Wreck lies in Breakwater Cove beyond the end of the Coast Guard breakwater. OpenDiveSites describes it as probably a pre-war sailing ship that was in use as a barge when it sank, now flattened with no accessible interior. Metridium anemones grow over the wreckage and shelter many fish, and Monterey Scuba Board calls the site nudibranch heaven. It is a long surface swim from San Carlos Beach in a busy boat lane, so most divers come by boat or kayak and fly a visible dive flag. Debris can still snag gear, and the wreck should not be used as a handhold.
