Zero Wreck

Also known as: The Zero · Japanese Zero wreck

The Zero was found in 2000 by a local fisherman and lies upright close to shore, apparently ditched in a controlled landing since it shows no combat damage. The plane is well preserved and has become a small artificial reef with anemones, hard corals and sponges, including an anemone with pink anemonefish just behind the cockpit. Shrimp, nudibranchs and pipefish live on the wreck, and nearby bommies add lionfish, signal gobies, a mandarinfish and a school of red bass. The silty bottom means visibility depends on the weather and on careful finning, so small groups are preferred.
