Vanessa's Reef

Also known as: Vanessa's · Vanessa

Vanessa's Reef is a long ridge extending west from a large reef flat, mostly lying in moderate depth, which allows long relaxed dives. Near the reef flat it carries a dense stand of large dark red gorgonian fans, many two to three metres across. Further out the shoulder becomes a sponge garden of elephant ear sponges, barrel sponges and bright orange sponge mounds covered in feeding crinoids. The fans hide hawkfish, commensal shrimp and other macro subjects. Divernet also describes a plateau at about 20 m covered in the area's signature red whip corals.
