Susan's Reef

Also known as: Susan's

Susan's Reef runs north from a saddle that connects it to Vanessa's Reef, with a sheer wall on the east side and a sloping hard coral garden on the west. Its signature is the thicket of red sea whips at the southern end, tangled with colourful crinoids. Large red sea fans further up are good places to look for longnose hawkfish, and razorfish hide among the sea whips. The shallows are mostly staghorn coral with anemones hosting several kinds of anemonefish. Photographers have reported pygmy seahorses on the gorgonians.
