Cueva Azul
Also known as: Blue Cave
EcuRed and cubadiving.org both name Cueva Azul, the Blue Cave, among the most spectacular sites of the El Colony diving zone. The dive descends to a hole in the rock roughly 3 m across at around 40 m, often filled with small silvery glassfish, and tarpon patrol the area. Looking out from the hole, the water shifts from grey-blue in the gully to near-black inside and bright turquoise beyond the wall. The ascent follows the face of the drop-off, which is covered in gorgonians, and fish life thickens towards the top of the wall. Because the clear water can tempt less experienced divers too deep, the dive is recommended for advanced divers only.
