Shark Bank
Shark Bank rises from deep water roughly halfway between Beau Vallon and Silhouette Island, so the boat ride is one of the longer ones from Mahé. The granite boulders and gullies of the bank gather huge schools of yellow-striped snappers, jacks and batfish. Eagle rays, stingrays, turtles and whitetip and blacktip reef sharks are regular visitors. Because the bank is prone to cold upwellings, whale sharks and manta rays occasionally pass in season. The edges fall away into very deep water, so divers need to watch their depth closely.
