Kiralagala
Also known as: Kirala Gala
Kiralagala is a group of rock towers, some packed tightly together and others standing apart, whose steep walls carry soft and hard corals, sea fans and white black coral trees. Its reputation rests on the sheer amount of fish: shoals of red-toothed triggerfish, trevally and fusiliers drop over the rocks while barracuda, oriental sweetlips and bannerfish gather near the base. Morays, lionfish, angelfish and small panther torpedo rays live on the walls themselves. Because the base lies at the edge of recreational limits, the usual plan is a short stay at depth followed by a slow ascent around the rock. In season, local dive centres report manta rays and occasionally whale sharks passing by.
