Rick's Reef

Also known as: Ricks Reef · Reeks Reef

Rick's Reef begins at a small gap in the reef table roughly 300 m north of the Canyon and is usually dived as a gentle drift south with a mild current, ending in the Canyon lagoon. A slope of salad coral leads down to table corals at about 18 m, and the pinnacles along the wall teem with anthias, coral groupers, pufferfish, morays and parrotfish, while turtles and Napoleon wrasse sometimes come in from the blue. After 35 to 40 minutes the fishbowl and the crack of the Canyon appear, an unusual angle on Dahab's best-known fissure, before the dive finishes through the coral garden and lagoon. Guides tend to keep the dive shallow and slow, and the marine life benefits from being away from the busy Canyon. It is considered suitable for most levels and is popular with underwater photographers.
