Tugboat
Also known as: Tugboat Wreck · Tugboat Beach
The little tug sits just off the shore below the cliff with the old Quarantine House, close to Director's Bay. Its hull is covered in tube sponges, cup corals and other growth, and a resident cloud of yellowtail snappers and parrotfish keeps divers company. Beyond the wreck a steep, coral-covered wall drops away, so the site works both as a long shallow dive and as a deeper reef dive that ends at the tug for the safety stop. The pilings of the nearby pier are overgrown with sponges and sea fans and are popular at night. Seahorses, octopus, frogfish and scorpionfish are regular finds for photographers. A surface marker buoy is mandatory because of boat traffic.
