Cap l'Abeille

Also known as: Cap La Vieille · Cap l'Abeille Nord · Cap l'Abeille Sud

The headland's original name, Cap La Vieille, comes from a rock shaped like an old woman's head, and the name later turned into Cap l'Abeille. The reserve authority names it as one of the two organised mooring zones of the marine reserve, and its many buoys allow several different routes around the cape. Archipel Plongée gives a depth of 6 to 20 m and uses it for try dives and beginners as well as longer explorations, while CAP Port-Vendres calls it popular with experienced divers. Dusky groupers, brown meagre, dentex, zebra seabream, damselfish, forkbeards and conger eels live among the rocks, together with lobsters and colourful nudibranchs. Solitary coral and soft corals add colour to the bottom.
