Punta Maria

Punta Maria is a Galapagos shark site on the western side of the island. From the mooring, divers cross a deep sandy bay to a plateau at about 27 m and hide behind its edge so as not to scare the sharks. Toward the end of the dive they move over a sandy valley to a steep pinnacle at about 20 m, where surgeonfish, soldierfish and blue and yellow snappers school. Whitetips, hammerheads and large Galapagos sharks circle, and mantas are sometimes seen. The dive often ends drifting into the blue.
