Saxon Reef
Saxon Reef covers around 1.9 square kilometres and is less crowded than its better-known neighbours. Its lagoon is dotted with small bommies and large boulder corals, and patches of staghorn coral alternate with gullies and swim-throughs. Liveaboards moor here for night dives, when whitetip, blacktip and grey reef sharks hunt, moray eels swim free and red bass and giant trevally follow divers' torches. By day, divers see turtles, barramundi cod, diagonal-banded sweetlips and schools of fusiliers. Named sites include Twin Peaks, Magic Wall and Clipper.
