Sachen

Also known as: Sashe · Shashe

Sachen is a long, shallow stretch of reef dived between two coral walls with sand patches, which local guides rate as the most colourful in Bocas del Toro. Large sea fans grow unusually shallow here and carry flamingo tongue snails, and the sea goddess nudibranch is a sought-after subject for photographers. Schools of palometa and triggerfish pass, and nurse sharks rest on the sand. Swell, surge and current mean the site can only be dived when the sea is flat, usually in September and October. According to La Buga, the walls formed on a ferry that sank here many years ago.
