Antilla Wreck

Also known as: SS Antilla · Ghost Ship

Built in Hamburg and launched in 1939, the Antilla was only a year old when her captain had her set alight and flooded to keep her from Dutch marines after Germany invaded the Netherlands. Locals call her the Ghost Ship, although nobody died in the sinking. She counts among the largest wrecks in the Caribbean. The hull lies on her port side from about 5 m below the surface down to around 17 m at the propeller, with large tube sponges and corals covering the steel. Age and rust have collapsed parts of the ship, so operators no longer take divers inside. Turtles, morays, stingrays and octopus are regularly seen around her.
