SMS Cormoran

Also known as: Cormoran II

The ship was built in 1909 for Russia as the Rjasan, was captured by Germany and converted into an armed merchant raider, and was then interned at Guam. When the United States entered the First World War, her captain scuttled her rather than surrender, and she sank within minutes. The hull is still remarkably intact for its age, with the superstructure in place and the engine room reachable through the skylights. Divers usually follow the mooring line down because visibility can be poor, and according to MDA both wrecks can be touched at once at about 95 ft. The wreck is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places.
