A densely packed archipelago of 89 protected islands and islets in northern Dalmatia, managed as a national park with strictly regulated, guide-only scuba diving in nine designated zones.
Kornati National Park was established in 1980, protecting 89 of the roughly 140 islands, islets and reefs of the wider Kornati archipelago in Sibenik-Knin County. The park covers about 220 km2, three quarters of which is protected sea. Scuba diving is only permitted in organised groups through an operator holding a contract with the park administration, across nine designated diving zones (Kornat, Samograd, Okljuc, Mala Panitula, Vela Panitula, Rasip, Kasela, Mana and Borovnik).
