Iro Maru

Also known as: Iro · Iro Wreck

The ship was hit by a submarine torpedo on its way to Palau and sank during the air raids of Operation Desecrate One at the end of March 1944. It rests upright with the mast reaching to about 8 m and the main deck at around 25 to 28 m. A large coral-covered gun stands on a round platform at the bow, and the torpedo damage can still be seen there. Cleaner shrimps, lionfish, pipefish and anemones with clownfish live on the kingposts and superstructure. Divers are warned not to touch live ammunition, which can still be found on the wreck.
