Painted Walls
Painted Walls lies on the western side of Dead Chest Island inside the marine park. Divers swim through canyons where two underwater valleys meet, and the sponges and soft and hard corals on their walls show so many colours that dive centres compare them to a painter's palette; a torch helps to bring them out. At the end of the third canyon an archway leads through to a shallow pool when the sea is calm. Nurse sharks, barracuda and lobsters are the usual residents. Thanks to its modest depth and protected mooring, the site is often chosen for children and divers with little experience.
