Matt's Crack

Also known as: Matts Crack · Long Cave

The crack is about 60 m long, roughly 15 m deep and about 10 m wide at its mouth, narrowing to about 3 m. The inner part becomes very dark, so a good light is needed. Storm surge scours the walls, but schooling juvenile fish shelter inside from gannets, shags and kingfish. Scorpionfish, stingrays, toadstool groupers, crayfish and many small invertebrates are recorded. The blue halo at the entrance makes a striking backdrop for silhouette photos.
