Vera K

After grounding, the ship served as a military target before it was declared a hazard to shipping and demolished with explosives. The blast created the crater in which the wreck now lies in four main sections, with the bridge still fairly intact and the engine still complete. At the back of the crater a large archway with several entrances and a series of narrow tunnels give the dive a reef element, and a family of groupers is reported around the archway. Octopus, cuttlefish, wrasse, parrotfish and nudibranchs live among the broken plates. Bullet casings from the target practice sometimes turn up in the sand after storms.
